It is time for Florida businesses to take data protection more seriously. Each year, tens of millions of consumer records are compromised in the United States.
On July 1, the Florida Information Protection Act took effect and requires virtually every business that acquires an individual’s “personal information” to implement policies and procedures to protect that information if it is kept in electronic form.
It is critical that business owners, both in and out of Florida, appreciate the act’s broad definition of “personal information.
