Selman brings extensive experience representing real estate and power generation companies in environmental disputes to the Miami-founded boutique litigation firm.
MIAMI, Oct. 2026 — León Cosgrove Jiménez, LLP, a leading complex business and commercial litigation law firm, is proud to announce the addition of nationally recognized environmental attorney Russell B. Selman to the firm. Selman will lead the newly created Environmental Section in the Miami office.
“As we continue to grow, launching this new practice area represents an important expansion of our services and capabilities for our clients,” Derek León, Managing Partner of León Cosgrove Jiménez, said. “Bringing Russ on board—a titan in environmental litigation and ultrahazardous cleanups—was a perfect complement to our existing strengths in real estate and energy litigation, and we are all quite excited to be working with him.”
Selman represents real estate and power generation companies in high-profile environmental disputes in the largest, most complex, and most expensive environmental matters in the United States. He is known for his high degree of factual and technical understanding, and his practice bridges the gap between litigation and restoration that ultimately leads to successful redevelopment.
“What drew me to LCJ is the people and the opportunity to build and lead the new Environmental Section in a boutique firm,” Selman said. “Environmental law is a very fact-oriented practice area that requires attorneys to have not only a factual working knowledge of how to accomplish achievable goals, but to stick with the problems even after the litigation is completed.”
Selman advises several leading corporations with Superfund sites in New York, California and in the Midwest. These sites involve century-old processes where the land and adjacent waterways are the joint focus of the EPA or state regulators. He was also among the first to file citizen suits under the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) to compel remediation in Illinois, California, and New York.
Selman’s clients value his ability to implement overall strategic plans for large environmental projects and identify other responsible parties to share the cost of cleanups. Given the uncertain and often unfair imposition of environmental costs, his careful building-block approach to developing his clients’ cases has proven successful and has convinced many opponents to assess early settlement.
Earlier in his career, Selman served as acting assistant enforcement counsel for the EPA, where he developed legal and enforcement policies for EPA environmental programs and worked on the reauthorization of the Superfund statute.
Selman received his J.D. from Washington University School of Law, a MPA from Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs, and a B.A. from New College of Florida.
